treehug1Greetings Earthlings. We return to the woods with a call from Everett Castro, Advocacy Director for Green Futures to talk about state sponsored MassDestruction!  Noooo, not THAT kind of destruction. It’s time to think like a tree once again, OK?  Also, we’ll checkout the situation in The Enviro Show Echo Chamber and at our E-Valley-uation segment, as well as checking in with the Fool-on-the-Hill, but first it’s time for……..Revenge of the Critters! Squirrel martyrs subverting the dominant paradigm!

In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we find Naomi Klein hoping to convince unions to join the struggle against the climate crisis. This is a really fine idea ‘cuz, hey guys, there are no decent jobs when the biosphere goes down the tubes (but you know that…..right??). The latest from the ongoing multiple meltdowns in Fukushima is……wait, you didn’t forget that did you?  In any case, would you believe building an ice wall to stop highly radiated water from reaching the Pacific? No? Maybe a sand castle siege wall? No? How about magic spells from Hogwarts?  Seriously though, it’s now reported that the plant “has radiation leaks strong enough to deliver a fatal dose within hours”. Does the term “out of control” seem to fit here? Here’s your Enviro Show Blog Bonus: Rachel does Fukushima (sorry, you have to wade through the set-up). Finally, recall the Fukushima tsunami debris alerts last year for the West Coast? Well, best tell your friends on the other coast that the actual radioactive plume is on the way in 2014. Not to worry though, it’s safe. They say so. Really. Yup. Safe.

Our Fool-on-the-Hill this week gets an big F in history. Former House Foreign Affairs Committee chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Repugnican-FL)  attacked the Prez on Faux “News” for not moving more forcefully against Syria. She told Faux that Reagan never would have stood for a chemical weapons attack. In the real world, the Reagan administration not only did nothing when Saddam Hussein gassed Iranian soldiers, but actually helped target them. Also, Reagan did nothing when Saddam used poison gas Kurdish population in Northern Iraq. Sorry, Ileana not only did you fail history you also have to see the school nurse about that weird thing between your ears.

We Meet the New Boss as he and his underlings cozy up to Big Oil and such climate criminals as Warren Buffet. This in-depth analysis of the politics behind enabling Big Oil to open up global markets posted by our friends at Global Justice Ecology Project puts the lie to all the Prez’s “concerned” talk about the Climate Crisis. We have little use for the likes of Sarah Palin, but….umm….how’s that hopey changey thing working for ya’?

In our E-Valley-uation segment we celebrate the Northampton City council’s vote to divest from fossil fuels.  Now, if they’d only divest from Monsanto’s Roundup!

  1. Our public lands should be managed for protection of wildlife habitat, water resources, and passive recreation, rather than managed as tree plantations for private logging firms. Note that passive recreation does not include ear-splitting ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) that tear through the woods, disturbing (and sometimes killing) wildlife and causing erosion.
