OverPopGreetings Earthlings, and there are so many of you!  We’re thinking: too many. Tom Butler returns to talk biped population and its consequences on the show as we delve into “a new kind of book” entitled “Over”.  As usual, we will also take you on a journey to the Enviro Show Echo Chamber, to meet the Fool-on-the-Hill and to Meet the New Boss, and do a little E-valley-uation while we’re at it, but first it’s time for……….Revenge of the Critters! It’s Autumn and most Squirrels are out and about stowing away nuts BUT some in NYC are just going nuts! Could it be overcrowding or just issues with the subway?

This week’s Fool-on-the-Hill is Rep. Paul Gosar, a Catholic Republican from Arizona who boycotted Pope Francis’ speech in the 10th level of Hell (as did such “good Catholics” like Justice Scalia, he of bad ideas).  “I don’t need to be lectured by the Pope about climate change,” Gosar said in an interview off the House floor. “When he wants to take a political position, I will tell you: He is free and clear to be criticized like the rest of us.” So much for Papal infallibility!

And speaking of the Pope, our Quote of the Week comes straight from his remarks to The New Boss in Hell: “Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation. When it comes to the care of our “common home”, we are living at a critical moment of history. We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about “a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change” (Laudato Si’, 13). Such change demands on our part a serious and responsible recognition not only of the kind of world we may be leaving to our children, but also to the millions of people living under a system which has overlooked them.” We guess that covers the New Boss segment as well.

We think a little E-Valley-uation is in order here. Our State Senator (and head honcho of that body) is headed down to visit the pit of vipers (apologies to our friends the snakes) that is the Federal Energy “Regulatory” Commission [insert uproarious laughter here]. He made what for him is a strikingly strong statement about FERC recently. “That agency has so much power, and as far as I understand, they’ve never seen a pipeline they didn’t like, and they’ve never turned down a proposal, and no pipeline that’s ever been approved has been overturned,” Rosenberg said. We can hardly wait to learn more of Stan’s journey. And this: Our friends at MassPlan are appealing the appalling decision by the Massachusetts Dept. of PRIVATE Utilities giving the green light for regional gas companies to get in bed with Kinder Morgan (O wait, those liaisons are already bedded down, yes?). And, don’t let these fossil fools bullshit you about there being no plans to export most of that fracked gas in the proposed NED pipedream. Corporados up in Canada are busily at work on getting the export infrastructure in place. Our favorite Massachusetts Attorney General, Maura Healey may be all up in the corporados face sometime soon. Stay tuned! Finally, how about we go to the movies, OK? Remember when Gus & Lindsay of Children of the Wild were on the show? They invited d.o. to read at the Montage Plains Pipeline Procession and here’s the result: roll the tape please….O wait,   maybe it’s electrons?

We have Breaking News: Shell, though still from Hell, says they’re pulling out from oil drilling in the Arctic. Celebrate when you can, some corporados will no doubt try to take their place.

We stick with the Bay State in the Enviro Show Echo Chamber where State rep. Lori Ehrlich tries to wake-up the Commonwealth to the plight of Elephants and other critters. Checkout H1275 An Act to prevent trafficking in ivory and rhino horns.  Elsewhere, over 400 groups delivered a letter to President Obama urging him to “stop new federal fossil fuel leasing on public lands and oceans. Keeping that coal, oil and gas in the ground would stop up to 450 billion tons of carbon pollution from reaching the atmosphere and worsening the climate crisis.” How about keep it in the ground everywhere? But wait! Look what came out of the ground due to climate chaos and the melting of the permafrost: a 30,000-year old GIANT virus! Maybe there’s hope for the planet yet? Well, maybe not. Checkout something the Pope said at the UN. Finally, our Enviro Show Blog Action Bonus: Exxon/Mobil needs to get busted! Go HERE.
