Yet Another Ides of March Enviro Show

Posted: March 10, 2016 in Uncategorized

14.ides_of_marchGreetings Earthling. We’d like to take a moment (OK, make that several moments) to warn the fossil fools to Beware the Ides of March! That’s correct, corporados and enablers in government, the masses are not pleased with your behavior, your fracked gas export schemes, your total disregard for Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, and those lame thousand dollar suits you wear, OK? Melinda Tuhus from Beyond Extreme Energy (BXE) joins us to ward off these enemies of the planet and look ahead to the future. Also, Tom Neilson with another report from the road. As always, we’ll take you to meet (and make light of) this week’s Fool-on-the-Hill and into The Enviro Show Echo Chamber, as well as get into some Broken News and hear our Quote of the Week, but first it’s time for………..Revenge of the Critters! Truckin’ goes to the dogs!

This week’s Fool-on-the-Hill is Texas Repugnican Lamar Smith….again. The chairman of the House “Science” Committee is still on his climate change witch hunt of climate scientists at NOAA. Now he “wants access to all communications [at NOAA] that include the terms “temperature,” “climate,” “change,” “Paris,” “U.N.” “United Nations,” “clean power plan,” “regulations,” “Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),” “President,” “Obama,” “White House,” “Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), “buoy,” and more.” Why stop there, Lamar? How about communications that include terms like “our secret plan to destroy Capitalism” or “Al Gore’s orders”?

How about we start of The Enviro Show Echo Chamber with a Blog Bonus? Help stop this absolutely horrible legislation, the so-called Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act. “If enacted, the SHARE Act (H.R. 2406) would remove federal protections for gray wolves, expand trapping and recreational shooting on public lands, block efforts to restrict the use of toxic lead ammunition, block efforts to crack down on the global ivory trade, and even allow the importation of trophy polar bears from Canada, despite a 2012 law that banned it.”  It’s the most destructive anti-wildlife proposal ever to come to Congress. Also this, Bill McKibben gets himself busted up at Seneca Lake trying to stop those fracking corporados. And this: Greenpeace is launching a Fukushima investigation on this, the 5th anniversary of that epic and ongoing nuclear catastrophe.

We have Broken News! Here it is: “New satellite data and surface observations analyzed by Harvard researchers confirm previous data and observations: U.S. methane emissions are considerably higher than the official numbers from the EPA. Significantly, the EPA numbers are mostly based on industry-provided estimates, not actual measurements.” Surprise!

And Breaking News! “A group of citizens groups has dusted off a forgotten provision of the 1978 Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act that it said requires FERC to provide public funding for interventions before the agency.” We trust FERC will fund an investigation into……FERC! And this: On Thursday the EPA announced they will limit methane emissions from existing oil and gas facilities. Yes, they’re many years late to the table. Let’s see what they bring with them.

How about a little E-Valley-uation! Are you up for contributing to the Town of Montague’s intervenor struggle with Berk Gas and he DPU? Read all about it here. AND this Thursday walkers start Taking Steps To a Renewable Future beginning Thursday, 8AM at Windsor Town Hall and walking all the way east to Northfield by Sunday. In case you missed it, it’s a 4-day, 53 mile intergenerational walk following roads near the proposed route of the Kinder Morgan Northeast Energy Direct pipeline. See the Bus Stop Board below for details.

Here’s our seasonal Enviro Show Quote of the Week with March 20th in mind: “The first day of spring was once the time for taking the young virgins into the fields, there in dalliance to set an example in fertility for nature to follow. Now we just set the clocks an hour ahead and change the oil in the crankcase.”  ~E.B. White

After our conversation with Melinda and Tom we head over to the Bus Stop Billboard:
